Dear friends of the IP,

You can come in person next Thursday but you are also invited to participate online.

Our country is in some bad straights with the economy and it is time to speak up. Your friendly website bloggers at independenceminnesota.org want to hear what you think, at a large scale (nation and world), or small (your neighborhood) about the economy. We are going to start a remarkably in-depth discussion of it, with data and personal anecdotes.

Please think about something to write now, 1-5 paragraphs long (if you are very inspired go for more) about what you think. If you want to interview a neighbor or even a grandparent who went throught the 1930's please do it.

Come next Thursday evening to talk about our online documentary...OR...just put your post on the meetup page (comment section or reply). We are the group with roots in fiscal reform and it is time to speak up now!

Comments for the 2/5/8 meetup The end is near. The end of the current downturn, that is. Ending because wages are dropping. Ending because the DJIA is at 8,000 (I estimate its possible bottum to be at 7,200). Ending because the correction was so harsh and quick.

The global economy reminds me of a survival of the fittest/ransack a rainforest/lemmings over a cliff. Eventually, the whole system is forced to critical mass and change occurs. Good, bad or otherwise - change occurs. Checks and balances. The inhabitants consumed far more than the globe could provide and the lemmings are forced to jump. Where's the divine love in all this? I do believe in the Law of Karma, what goes around comes around. It may take awhile, but it happens. I can wait.

As an idea, I am interviewing my 91 year old grandmother, who was 13 in 1930 and 23 in 1940. She lived in Devils Lake, North Dakota and then Fargo. Things were tough but her family did ok like everyone else. God I hope none of us start saving every used margerine tub!

    •  when the state budget is 2.5% short all functions of the state, salerys purchases, sevices, ect. should atomaticaly be attenuated by that ammount.for the budget year The sole exception would be with those people at or below minimum wage.any new progams should be postponed untill the budget rises to near normal.Any aditional new spending would simpley raise the %of shortfall
    •  Most of this meetup is online, but the participants who came to the physical meetup had a great and productive experience. This will be great for teh website and progress. The meetup ended at about 9:15. One group stayed til 10:15 and another until nearly midnight...oops....where did the time go?
