Senator Moua has recently introduced legislation that would allow cities to develop budget proposals behind closed doors in the early stages of budgeting Supporters of this change suggest that it would allow cities to come up with creative ways to balance budgets without public outrage (among other claims). Some even say that the Governor's agencies budget behind closed doors, so why shouldn't cities. We are not so sure. Perhaps we need to open a few more doors instead of closing them. Minnesota's cities are probably better models for state government than the reverse. Meeting with us is Don Gemberling, former director of the Information Policy and Analysis Development Office with the State of Minnesota...the people in charge of open meeting and data rules. Don is going to talk to us about opening the door in government, not closing it. What first appears to be a rather narrow issue is extremely big and frankly defines many of the problems in government. This is an open-to-all meetup and we encourage you to come. Mr. Gemberling will inspire you with how government can operate. This is an awesome meeting location with great cafes close by. BTW- the Independence Party will be speaking up on many issues facing the state. We do need your help. Please contribute to honest messages, donation today at http://www.independe nceminnesota.org/get -involved/contribute

Dear friends of the IP, You can come in person next Thursday but you are also invited to participate online. Our country is in some bad straights with the economy and it is time to speak up. Your friendly website bloggers at independenceminnesot a.org want to hear what you think, at a large scale (nation and world), or small (your neighborhood) about the economy. We are going to start a remarkably in-depth discussion of it, with data and personal anecdotes. Please think about something to write now, 1-5 paragraphs long (if you are very inspired go for more) about what you think. If you want to interview a neighbor or even a grandparent who went throught the 1930's please do it. Come next Thursday evening to talk about our online documentary...OR...j ust put your post on the meetup page (comment section or reply). We are the group with roots in fiscal reform and it is time to speak up now! Peter Tharaldson

We encourage all of you to come and mingle whether you were a hard core volunteer, a one time helper, or simply someone who voted for an IP candidate to come by. This year we have continued to build the IP's image in the public and our candidates have continued building our basic core level of support that is out there. NOW, it the time you stay involved and start building the support for our next round of elections. Please bring friends who might be interested in the future of the IP. They are welcome!
